Monitoring the Shift to Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns - in the context of the SDGs

Monitoring Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP), which is contained in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 (Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns), will require indicators that measure the shift in consumption and production patterns, as well as the institutional capacity to apply the measurements effectively. This report outlines ways to support monitoring SCP-related targets and indicators, in particular by using the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA). The authors argue that the reporting burden on countries, and the increasing number of reporting systems, suggest the need for common statistical standards that relate and connect with each other, such as the SEEA.
