Workshop on Natural Capital Accounting in Guatemala

Guatemala Workshop on NCA March 2015

WAVES Guatemala and the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment (IARNA), with cooperation from the National Commission for Protected Areas (CONAP), organized a training workshop on March 27, 2015 in Guatemala City for a group of government experts to learn to build accounts and standardize the collection and presentation of official statistics. 

The workshop provided information about NCA to the experts that will lead the updating of the ecosystems accounts; introduced concepts and knowledge about methodologies, previous experiences, and technical resources to produce ecosystems accounts; and brought together experts from all the institutions involved in the ecosystems accounts to begin a Community of Practice (CoP) on NCA.

Participants included experts from the the National Institute of Forests (INAB)National Commission of Protected Areas (CONAP), and Guatemala's Central Bank, who will lead the effort to update the ecosystems accounts.
