In this pilot project, Conservation International developed maps of essential natural capital for the following values: biodiversity, forest carbon, non-timber forest products (including bushmeat), freshwater ecosystem services (including flood regulation and sediment regulation for hydropower), and coastal protection from mangrove ecosystems. This critical information can provide a first-cut assessment enabling Liberia to make important natural resource decisions as it develops plans for achieving its national sustainable development targets.  We also built one ecosystem account for Liberia’s timber sector, to show the linkages between Liberia’s natural capital (forests) and its national economy.
